Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe

In 1983, Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe opened for business and this year it will be celebrating its 35th anniversary with its new owner of two years. The bakery has a wide variety of handmade baked good for families, events, special occasions, and for when you just want something sweet!

Cheryl, the current owner of Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe in Erie, PA,  began her career in food services, but had always loved baking and when the opportunity came up for her to own bakery, she took it. The shoppe itself has been open for 35 years, this year, and Cheryl purchased it from the previous owners two years ago.

Everyday she has a ten to twelve hour shift that includes delivering orders, running errands, in-store work, and whatever is needed for the day. The bakery has a website for customers to order gift baskets, customizable orders including a two dozen assortment of cookies, and some breakfast items. All of this which can be delivered to those in a fifteen mile radius from the shoppe (Monday through Friday) and can be shipped anywhere in the US via their website. They have a huge selection of flavors and different filled desserts for everyone to try, and some include peanut butter or brownie stuffed cookies and apple or apricot stuffed cookies.

Some of their most popular bakery items aside from their cakes and cookies are their cake pops. She loves to see the reactions of the kids eating or receiving their cakes or cookies, and making them so happy. Seeing the little ones and all customers happy by enjoying their baked goods is what gives her the most satisfaction at the bakery.

Cheryl said that something that makes their bakery special from others is that all of their proprietary recipes have been handed down to them from the previous owners, and these recipes are secret. In addition to having secret, passed down recipes she also thinks that their phenomenal employees are a part of what makes their bakery special. Her secret to have returning customer is, "All about the positive exposure and friendly, helpful staff." Being in the "heart of downtown," they also love to help the less fortunate, which is one of her best experiences while working at the bakery.

Being on Facebook has been their biggest promoter in terms of receiving new customers and getting customers to return, but they have also run other promotions for their products. With more and more additional customers Cheryl hopes to expand their storefront in the future to make more room for people and their products.
