Oktoberfest in Erie
Grab your lederhosen and get ready to eat some bratwurst, because this weekend at St. Joseph’s Church in Erie, PA, they will be hosting their twelfth annual Oktoberfest, Friday through Sunday! There will be free parking and free admission, authentic German food, and even a Weiner dog race. Along with their festivities the parish is also having a $25,000 drawing for those who purchase tickets to enter the drawing. For as little as ten dollars you can be entered and have two tickets in your name, or have a higher chance of winning by purchasing more tickets.
By purchasing tickets for the food featured at Oktoberfest you can get a variety of authentic German food. Each ticket is one dollar, and their site even says an adult dinner is twelve tickets and a child dinner is five tickets. Once you buy either the adult or child dinner, you get to pick one main dish and two sides, or you can buy tickets and pick from the a la carte menu which also has food for people that do not want German food, for example pizzas. In addition to the dinner tickets, each meal is served with a drink, a roll, applesauce, and ice cream. Some of the menu items for the dinners include, pork and sauerkraut, Bavarian goulash and spaetzle, mashed potatoes, and German potato salad. The a la carte menu features an array of German dishes and a couple American including a bratwurst sandwich (with sauerkraut of course), a limburger cheese sandwich, pizza, pretzel with cheese, and French fries.
There will be live bands at the main stage and the Bavarian coffee house, which features coffees and desserts. The parish has over 150 gift baskets for everyone to bid on to try and win, and with the wide selection of baskets many people will be able to find something they would like. Additionally there will also be local vendors that vary from crafts, beauty, jewelry, clothing, German gifts, and religious imports.
Bring your pets, bring your appetite, and bring your family to enjoy the fall festivities of Oktoberfest in Erie! This festival will be running Friday October 5, 5-11 p.m., Saturday October 6, 1-11 p.m., and Sunday October 7, 12-6 p.m.
