The Brewerie at Union Station Review

The other night as I was trying to find a casual sit-down restaurant for me and my friend to go to, he told me about the Brewerie at Union Station. He had been there before with both family and friends and suggested we go there because of their wide variety of food and because it was good the last time he went. I looked at the menu on my phone and already knew I was going to have a tough time deciding what I was going to order with so many options.

Located downtown just off of State Street and on the side of the street where Jr's Last Laugh Comedy Club is, you will find Union Station. Before going inside, my friend told me that the restaurant and bar used to be the old train station, and that is haunted (which they even have a beer named after the ghost). The inside of the main seating area is beautiful, the bar is amazing, and the "waiting room" seating area is stunning. This place really takes you back to the early 1900's with the architecture, the design, and the atmosphere. The inside still has a lot of the original design elements such as the signs for the different rooms and dome ceiling. Even though it was restored in 2003 being inside it still feels like nothing actually changed.

Their menu has a variety for people to choose from and enjoy with a big group or a small group. A bigger group could definitely share and pick on appetizers and fill up on just those alone, but for a smaller group or even two people one appetizer and something else from the menu was more than enough. From barbecue pulled pork nachos to balsamic portabella wrap to their deep fried Twinkies the brewerie has lots to choose from. They have items for those who do not eat or want to eat meat and they also have items for those who cannot get enough of meat.

I like to say that I am a connoisseur of calamari (the only fish I eat) and whenever a restaurant has it on their menu, I have to order it. Union Station's calamari is different, it is bigger and fluffier, but it was still really good, flavorful, and crispy. The appetizer came with a thai chili sauce that I dunked in every single time because it added so much more flavor. I also ordered their chicken caesar salad which was huge, but as good as it could get. The chicken was tender and the dressing was tangy, which I enjoyed for that kind of salad. The only thing that was a downside for me were the prices, but that is coming from a college student trying to watch her money. The service, the food, and the experience were all great the other night and I will definitely be going back for more and maybe even a ghost tour!
